A unique high purity Montmorillonite clay - Research proven! Remineralises water, improves water clarity, Koi colour & lustre, aids health, stimulates appetite. A Koi pond needs to has many elements, nothing is more important than the water itself. Water is known as the universal solvent. Bacteria, oxygen, minerals all have a major part to play in the health and physiology of aquatic pond dwellers such as beautiful Koi or even fish breed purely for the dinner table. Water quality is vital for survival for all fish low pollutants of course are a basic requirement. Public water supplies being a very sterile source of water for human consumption, lack the spectrum of minerals that fish can absorb in a natural lake environment. Regular mineral replenishment in an enclosed pond system can improve the health, colour & growth. Just look to the Japanese mud ponds where superb Koi are bred. This is near a natural environment for Koi. Mud ponds are the ideal, now we can mimic this environment to a significant degree by adding mineral elements found in nature. Montmorillonite clay can contain up to 64 minerals & trace elements. Clay is not a miracle or a panacea, Purity composition & structure is the critical element with clay to achieve results and most clay can purport to be a "type" of Montmorillonite. 99.9% of most clays in the world are unsuitable to use in a Koi pond environment.
Some are incapable of ion exchange some are so absorbent it is used in products like cat litter, plugging oil wells etc. Others are so inert that the white powder is will make laminates whiter, talcum powder, lipstick etc. clay has many industrial applications. Composition is important, Phosphate (present in most clays) can fuel blanket weed growth, too much Calcium can swing pH for example. Selection of a clay to perform any function is a science in itself. In a pond for example, a very high crystalline Montmorillonite structure is required to release minerals through ion exchange into the pond water.
Kusuri Klay now widely used throughout the UK, Europe, USA and the far east, is a beneficial weekly pond additive. A fine white powdered product that when added to any pond environment will release minerals through ion exchange. Using Kusuri Klay weekly in your pond will reap its own rewards as you will see better water clarity usually about 24 hours later, and better colour & lustre on your Koi after a few weeks. Kusuri Klay also is a positive benefit to health as fish adsorb minerals in large quantities from the water which helps bone & cellular growth.
Since Kusuri Klay was introduced the use of Montmorillonite clay in ponds has become very popular with pond keepers. This has of course spawned many products now available. There are hundreds of clays that fall into the "Montmorillonite" classification, many now being sold on to pond keepers, some will cloud pond water for several days, some are inert, some contain only 10 to 20% crystalline Montmorillonite. For these products to be effective dose rates could exceed over 500 grams per 1000 gallons to produce any significant benefit. Montmorillonite is not all the same! Kusuri Klay is over 80% crystalline Montmorillonite with a purity level of over 98.8%. It is the market leader because it produces results!
Speciality products Kusuri Klay-Frequently asked questions Q. Will Kusuri Klay effect the pH of my pond water? A. Not directly. A low PH reading will be registered on the milky solution prior to dilution in to the pond. It would take about 1 ton of klay to 5000 gallons to produce any significant permanent effect.
Q. What about the water hardness? A. The carbonate hardness ( CaC03 ) is part of the temporary hardness can be improved. This in turn will help to act as a buffer against swings in pH.
Q. How long does Kusuri Klay take to clear in the pond? A. In the average bottom drain filtered pond, about 6 hours. In bottom pump fed ponds up to 18 hours, Water clarity and sparkle will be self evident in about 24 hours. Clarity improvement can take a few doses if water conditions are poor.
Q. Will Kusuri Klay remove protein scum and large particles in water? A. Ionic reaction in the lattice structure of the clay effectively draws minute organic particle matter into the clay, it will also adsorb unwanted protein in solution as well. (Excess protein in water is converted into the unwanted Ammonia pollutant.) clay is not able to remove large particles like blanket weed.
Q. What happens to the clay when it settles out in the pond water? A. Clay is only partially soluble in water. Be under no illusion no Montmorillonite offered for sale will fully dissolve! If it does, its not Montmorillonite clay! However our clay leaves far less precipitation. The university research has shown that most of our clay will actually be eaten by Koi. A white hue to the walls and bottom may be evident after 24 hours, a little clay will be left as a deposit in the pond which will soon be filtered to a slow degradable waste.
Q. At what temperature should I use Kusuri Klay? A. Re-mineralising the pond is beneficial to Koi health at any temperature all year round.
Q. What if I have to medicate my pond ? A. No problem! Kusuri Klay is a pure mineral product, 24 hrs before and 72 hours after any medications. Extra doses of Kusuri Klay can help restore water clarity |
