A Vortex is one of the effective ways to remove solid waste form a pond prior to the water entering the biological stages. The principle on which a Vortex works is very simple. The water enters the unit from a tangentially positioned entry point which causes the water to spin very slowly. This causes all suspended solids in the water to be moved to the sides of the chamber via tangential forces. When the solids hit the sides of the unit friction causes them to slow down and they drop out of suspension down the sides of the Vortex into a steeply sided cone or funnel where they collect. A special bottom drain in the Vortex is controlled by a slide or ball valve and ALL the dirt can be removed by simply opening the valve for approximately 5 seconds. No other cleaning is required! With a correctly sized installation, over 80% of the solid waste entering a Vortex chamber can be removed before it passes through to the next chamber.
Connect multiple vortex chambers to make arguably the the best filtration system. The first vortex is for settlement purposes only, the chambers further along the line will settle more dirt and solid waste out but also can be filled with a media of choice to make a complete system which is easy to clean and maintain, offers superb water quality and clarity and is simple to expand.
