Costia, or Ichthyobodo necator, are small kidney shaped flagellates and often occur on pond fish.
These parasites can be the cause of disease and death if not treated quickly. Costia occurs between 2 to 30 Degrees Celsius and appear in both summer and winter. Costia reproduces very quickly and can cover a fish in as little as two weeks, with each parasite causing damage to the skin, secondary infections are a serious threat.
