Koi herpesvirus (KHV) is a viral disease of common carp Cyprinus carpio and its ornamental variants. The virus was first recorded in Israel in 1998, following large-scale mortalities of koi. More recently the virus has been isolated from a number of countries throughout the world and has been associated with an increasing number of koi mortalities in England. In all instances so far recorded, the disease has been restricted to carp and its variants.

| Spring Viraemia of Carp SVC, a viral disease commonly found in koi, and other carp in Europe, is caused by a rhabdovirus, which is the same class as rabies, but it is a fish (not mammalian) virus. Goldfish are also thought to be susceptible. Mortality in an exposed population of koi ranges from 30% to greater than 90%.

| Carp Pox Carp Pox is a viral disease prevalent during colder weather causing tumours resembling white candle wax. The growths disappear at higher water temperatures and the disease is not regarded as serious although koi do not always thrive whilst affected.
